Nearly all of Jesus Disciples were actually martyred, many of those who were early converts were also made to suffer and were executed. Throughout history, there has been persecution of those Christians who stood up for their faith, yet Christianity, or more correctly, followers of Jesus, those who have accepted Him as their Saviour continues to grow, in many cases in those countries and regions that would seek to wipe it out .

God’s purposes and the reality of belief in Jesus bringing peace to the soul is a blessing no other belief can give.

It sometimes begs the question: if adversity and hostility to the Gospel and our Saviour come to those Christians who are currently suffering for the Gospel’s sake, what is our witness for Him and are we experiencing hostility and suffering because of our beliefs? If we do not experience opposition and possibly ridicule – are we really standing up for our Saviour as we ought? The letter of the Apostle Peter in the Bible has some encouraging words to help us to witness more obviously to our Saviour: “If any person suffers as a Christian, let them not be ashamed”. We could perhaps turn that verse around and say we ought to be ashamed if we are NOT suffering for our Christian faith! 

I believe that the closer we are to God, the more we might be called on to suffer some form of enmity BUT, the closer we are to God, the greater peace we will have in our hearts!

Koine Greek - Entrust or Commit

  Biblical Words & Their Meaning: παρατίθημι (paratithemi) One of the most powerful and tender words in the New Testament appears in 1 Timothy 1:18 when Paul writes to his young protégé:  “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy…” The Greek word behind “commit” (or “entrust” in many modern translations) is παρατίθημι ( paratithemi ). What does it actually mean? Literally, paratithemi means to place something alongside or to entrust for safekeeping. It carries the rich picture of depositing a valuable treasure into the care of a trusted person — like placing precious items in a secure bank or handing over something of great worth with the expectation that it will be guarded and stewarded faithfully. In everyday Greek it could simply mean “to give over,” “to commend,” or “to entrust.” But in Paul’s hands, it takes on deep apostolic weight. He is not casually asking Timothy to do a job.
