  Blessed with Every Spiritual Blessing – Ephesians 1:3–14 James Butterfield opened with a relatable question: "Do you ever feel blessed?" He noted how social media often celebrates #blessed moments like weddings or holidays – but is that what true blessing looks like? Turning to Ephesians 1:3–14 , James unpacked Paul's words from prison: "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ." Paul, writing in chains, lists these blessings: Chosen before creation to be holy (v4). Adopted as God's children through Jesus (v5). Redeemed by Christ's blood, forgiven (v7). Lavished with grace, wisdom, and understanding (v8). Included in God's mystery – uniting all things under Christ (v9–10). Sealed with the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of inheritance (v13–14). Yesterday’s Family Service gave us another reminder that the Gospel doesn’t always arrive in a three-point sermon—it can just as easily come with six guitar strings and a chorus you can’t stop humming. Our second Gospel message came from Geoff Taylor of Christchurch Xscape, and the full recording is now up on our YouTube channel if you’d like to catch (or replay) the moment. As always, Geoff arrived with his trusty guitar and a heart full of Scripture, treating us to three Jesus-centred songs he’s written himself. The melodies are fresh and contemporary, but the truths they carry are as old as the Psalms and as powerful as the empty tomb. Geoff calls it “new songs from old truths,” and that’s exactly what it felt like—ancient hope wrapped in chords that still sound good on a Sunday morning. The word of God is always important, no more so than on The Lord’s Day when we meet together. The Joy of Live Music in Worship There’s something truly powerful about live music in worship. It’s more than notes, chords, and melodies—it’s a way of drawing hearts together, lifting voices in unity, and directing all our praise to the Lord. This week at our Family Service , we were blessed once again to see the Worship Team expanding for the second week in a row . Donna, our faithful pianist, was joined by Danny and Cameron on guitar , and Emily on vocals . What a joy it was to hear them blend together in worship, each offering their gifts to the Lord and to His people. Moments like these remind us that worship isn’t just performance—it’s participation. Every instrument, every voice, every strum and chord helps lead us deeper into the presence of God. A Lost Sheep, A Loving Shepherd 🐑✝️ This past Sunday at our Family Service, we were given a real treat. Brian Preston shared his testimony (which you can watch on our YouTube channel ), and alongside it, he used a set of hand-drawn illustrations that carried both spiritual weight and a touch of nostalgia. These weren’t just any drawings—they were lovingly created by Sandra, Brian’s wife, more than 40 years ago when she was working with children. The artwork is big and bold, all drawn on A3 sheets of paper, and they brought Jesus’ parable of the lost sheep (Luke 15:3–7) vividly to life. The story, of course, is simple yet profound: a shepherd leaves his 99 sheep to go after the one that’s wandered off. It’s a picture of God’s relentless love for each of us—that none are too lost, too far gone, or too insignificant to be pursued by Him.   God Will Make a Way CLICK on the image to watch in YouTube  We had such a wonderful treat in our Family Service today! Donna and Scott took to the front and sang the beautiful worship song “God Will Make a Way.” What a blessing it was to hear those words lifted up to the glory of God. It was especially moving because this was Scott’s very first time standing up front to sing a duet with Donna. And what a debut it was! Their voices blended together so naturally, filling the room with encouragement and hope. You could see how much it meant to everyone gathered — the joy was contagious.  In fact, one of the sweetest moments was watching a little girl run around like she was absolutely on fire with the Spirit — the purest picture of how worship overflows when God’s presence stirs us.   The Power of Music in Worship 🎶 Music has always been a vital part of Christian worship. From the psalms of David to the hymns of the early church, songs have carried the truths of God deep into hearts and lifted voices together in praise. Worship in song isn’t just about melodies and harmonies—it’s about glorifying God, encouraging one another, and reminding ourselves of the hope we share in Christ. At South Featherstone Gospel Hall, we’ve been especially blessed by Donna, our wonderful pianist.  For years she's been the faithful backbone of our musical worship—week after week, often leading on her own, pouring her heart into every note. It’s no exaggeration to say that her music has carried us through countless services and helped focus our worship on the Lord. But something new and exciting happened on Sunday 24th August.   The Importance of Spreading God’s Word 📖✨ One of the greatest privileges we have as Christians is the call to share the good news of Jesus Christ. From the Great Commission in Matthew 28, where Jesus told His disciples to “go and make disciples of all nations”, right through to today, the responsibility and joy of spreading God’s Word continues. At the Gospel Hall, we are especially blessed. God has provided us with three main preachers who faithfully teach and encourage us week by week. Alongside them, we’re often joined by many other believers from the local area who come to share the gospel with us. It’s a living reminder that the Word of God isn’t locked away in books or buildings—it’s alive, spoken, and shared by ordinary people who have been transformed by Christ.
