The Daily Word

The prime attitude I notice in our society is largely self-satisfaction, even if that means at the expense of others. This is also backed up by the thought that ‘might is right’. We have stopped being a caring society because caring is now seen as weakness. Even in places where care for others should be paramount, there is frequently an attitude that there are self-imposed limits on how far that should extend and it frequently falls short of the level of need.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, “Blessed are the meek”. But meekness also is seen as weakness. Practical caring to the level of need we see, can sometimes be very draining, both mentally and physically and if we are following Jesus, we can even feel spiritually drained at times. But sometimes in stressful situations, instead of relying more on God’s guidance we switch back to trying to solve things in our own strength. But God has a word for us in Isaiah 40, “God gives power to the faint; and to them which have no might, He gives strength”.
This is a very apt reminder that when the pressure is high, that is the time to turn to God, that is the time to turn to prayer, to committing a situation to Him and let God work through us or round us to provide the solution. It is amazing just how much our minds are relieved and cleared if we hand over control to Him
