Seek First the Kingdom

“Do Not Be Anxious” – Luke 12:22-31

Dear Friends, in Luke 12, the Lord Jesus speaks directly to one of the most common struggles we all face — anxiety and worry about daily life. After warning about greed, He turns to His disciples with tender, practical words that are just as relevant today as they were then.

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.” (Luke 12:22-23 ESV)

Jesus uses two beautiful illustrations from nature. He points to the ravens — they neither sow nor reap, yet God feeds them. Then He speaks of the lilies of the field — they neither toil nor spin, yet even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of them. If God cares so wonderfully for birds and flowers, how much more will He care for His own children?

The heart of the passage comes in verse 31:

“But seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.” (Luke 12:31 ESV)

Jesus does not promise a trouble-free life, but He does promise that when we make God’s kingdom and His righteousness our first priority, our Heavenly Father, who knows exactly what we need, will provide. Worry achieves nothing, but trusting God brings peace.

This is a wonderful and practical word for our busy, stressful world. We are constantly bombarded with reasons to be anxious — about money, health, family, and the future. Jesus invites us to live differently: to trust our Father’s care and to fix our eyes on what really matters.

Pause & Pray: Take a quiet moment now. Bring to the Lord the things that are causing you anxiety. Thank Him that He knows your needs even better than you do. Ask Him to help you seek first His kingdom and His righteousness today, and to replace your worry with trust and peace.

Verse to Remember: “But seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.” (Luke 12:31 ESV)

Question to Consider: What are you most tempted to worry about at the moment? How would your attitude and actions change this week if you truly sought God’s kingdom first?
