The Daily Word

Yesterday we considered the first part of I Corinthians 15 v 58, considering the exhortation of Paul ‘to be steadfast’. Today we will look at the second part of the verse, which in the AV is the word “(be ye) unmoveable”. There is a sense in that steadfast and unmoveable are similar. Both words have a similar focus of a mind that cannot be easily changed. But whereas ‘steadfast’ can be associated with life direction, ‘unmoveable’ implies not being shaken in our beliefs and not being disturbed by circumstances around us.

Paul, elsewhere in his writings said, “I know whom I have believed” and we too should be able to likewise say the same. The Reformation had as its fundamental principle, Salvation by faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ alone and it recognised the ultimate and only authority to be God Himself, not a man interpreting what God has to say. But also the divinity and equality with God of Jesus as the Son of God.

Out of the Reformation came our Bible, God’s written Word, to be used directly by each individual under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. These basic Christian doctrines and others, sometimes described as the Articles of Faith, are what we must never be shaken from. And we must always maintain our own confession of faith in Jesus Christ.
