The Daily Word

It has often been said that we underestimate our enemies at our peril. We appear to have a situation in the world at present where an enemy’s resistance was grossly underestimated, throwing the whole world into crisis, which does not appear to have any peaceful ending. This follows a further underestimation by Russia of the resistance of Ukraine, and this too is now a war of attrition bringing tragedy to millions of people on both sides, but particularly Ukraine.
We too in our spiritual lives, frequently underestimate our enemy, Satan, and his many angels. We sometimes feel dissatisfied about the quality of our spiritual life but fail to look at what has happened to bring this about and it is usually some situation where we have behaved not in accordance with what God would want. We have let Satan trick us and deceive us and we need to go back and rectify that situation before God and whoever else might be involved.
Paul says, in Ephesians, “Put on the whole armour of God” in order to have any chance of defeating the attacks of Satan and it is worth studying the different elements of armour that Paul identifies. They may be outdated in terms of today’s battles, but they are essentially such as would be worn in Paul’s day for personal hand to hand combat. And it is the personal nature of the protection that is important and we may look again at the items and their spiritual nature to ensure our lives are in order as far as God is concerned.
