The Daily Word

Back in the book of Samuel, David was anointed the future king of Israel when he was a teenager. He then went out and killed Goliath in a duel. With such a heroic and God-inspired beginning you would have thought that his life going forward would have been a breeze. But definitely not so! The king he was to replace, Saul, was aware of the anointing, and the fact that it was God’s plan BUT he tried everything he knew to destroy David and through that period of his life Saul was fighting against God.

However, that did not make David’s life any easier, in fact he became a fugitive and only escaped narrowly with his life on occasions. Did he ever doubt that God had a plan for him? If we read the psalms, many of which were written by David when he was running for his life, we see human honesty displayed. He many times asked God what was happening to him and why.

We too, look at negative events which occur in our lives and wish that God would lead us on a smoother path. But all of the psalms which David wrote, openly asking God what He was doing , all of them end up with statements of faith and in 2 Samuel 22, we have the key response that David had worked out from his experience with God, “I will call upon the Lord”.

We may never be hunted for our lives as he was but if that response was good enough for David, then it is absolutely the right one for us when life’s problems seem to be crushing us. God knows our situation better than we do and as a loving Heavenly Father, He wants to enter into communication with His children. The problems may not go away but we will feel the peace of God in our hearts and know that He cares for us more than we will ever realise.
