The Daily Word

Each day we are bombarded with advertisements, the internet and people telling us that what they are wanting us to use or to do is the best thing for us. To try and differentiate themselves and their ‘product’ from the rest of what is on offer, words and music and pictures are all used. If smell, taste and feel could be transmitted, then I’m sure they would also be used to assail our senses and lull us into purchasing their product or service. ‘Good’ to describe a product is literally not good enough. It has to be total and complete excellence, which in practice or use, it rarely is!

But when we read the words, “Good is the word of the Lord”, in Isaiah 39, we can forget all the advertising hype and know that we have truth at last. When we read God’s Word, we know without any advertising that we have struck gold, as it were, in our lives. God has used godly men to pen thoughts given to them by the Holy Spirit and they are written entirely so that our spiritual growth can be achieved. Without ‘the word of the Lord’ we are left in confusion as we see in so much of the world, but absorbing God’s Word gives us hope and direction. Without reading and studying the Bible on a regular basis, we are starving ourselves spiritually and then wonder why we are weak and dissatisfied. So ‘taste and see that the Lord is good’!
