The Daily Word

Have you had your flu and/or COVID jab this year? What do these injections do for us? Well, they give us enhanced protection against flu or COVID, they boost our immune system and act as a shield against infection.
Do you have any life insurance? That won’t protect you from death, unfortunately but it will ensure that the cost of disposing of our remains is reduced for our families. It is a shield against financial embarrassment.
As far as our spiritual life is concerned, in Psalm 3, king David writes, “But You, O Lord, are a shield for me”. Here we have the mightiest shield from spiritual harm that can ever be provided, and unlike injections or insurance, God can never fail. However, even the best shield is only useful if used and we need to ask God daily to shield us from spiritual danger. If our heart is far away from God then it is as though that shield is not close to us and Satan is so strong that we have no might of our own to fight him off. We need to look also at the whole spiritual armour that Paul writes about in Ephesians 6 where he talks about the ‘shield of faith’. If we don’t fully trust God, then our shield is weakened. So let us ensure that daily we cling to Him.
