I was drawn to a little phrase that Jesus spoke after one of His miracles, “And shew how great things the Lord has done for you”. It was directed to a man from whom the Lord had cast out many demons, and he was changed from an uncontrollable maniac to a person sitting at the feet of Jesus.
When we come around the Lord’s Table on a Sunday morning, we are in exactly the same position. We may not have been mad, at least not some of us, but we all had an uncontrollable compulsion within us to sin. Once we realised that Jesus had died to free us from this force for ever, we turned to Him and started sitting at His feet, as it were, learning more from Him.
And on a Sunday morning we have the opportunity to express our gratitude to Him because of the great things He has done for us. Our thanks and worship is very much part of our remembrance of Him because His death and resurrection has given us new life, like that demoniac, and that life is eternal. If we value that new life for what it is, how can we not respond in praise and worship!
