Marching in Obedience

“The Walls Came Tumbling Down” – Joshua 6:1-20
Dear Friends, Joshua chapter 6 records one of the most famous victories in the Bible — the fall of Jericho. The city was tightly shut up because of the Israelites, yet God gave Joshua what must have seemed like a very strange battle plan. For six days the armed men, together with seven priests carrying trumpets and the Ark of the Covenant, were to march once around the city in silence. On the seventh day they were to march around it seven times, the priests were to blow the trumpets, and then all the people were to give a great shout.
When they obeyed exactly as God commanded, the walls of Jericho fell flat. The people went straight up into the city and took it. What a powerful demonstration that victory comes not by human strength or clever strategy, but by simple obedience to the word of the Lord.
This account is a wonderful picture of faith in action. The people had to keep marching even when nothing seemed to be happening. They had to trust God’s promise when the situation looked impossible. The shout of victory came before they saw the walls fall — that is the essence of faith.
For us today, there are “Jericho walls” in our lives — situations that seem impossible, strongholds that need to come down, or battles we cannot win in our own strength. God often calls us to walk in obedience, sometimes in ways that don’t make sense to us, and to trust Him for the outcome.
Pause & Pray: Read Joshua 6:1-20 slowly. Imagine the long silent marches and the final shout of faith. Then pray:
“Lord, thank You for the powerful story of Jericho. When I face situations that seem impossible, help me to obey Your Word even when I don’t understand. Teach me to keep walking in faith and to trust You for breakthroughs. May I learn to praise You before I see the victory, knowing that the battle belongs to You. Amen.”
Verse to Remember: “And the Lord said to Joshua, ‘See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valour.’” (Joshua 6:2 ESV)
Question to Consider: Is there a “Jericho wall” in your life right now — something that feels too strong or impossible? What step of obedience is God asking you to take, even if it seems unusual?
