God’s Promise of Blessing

“If You Obey”: The Blessings of a Walk with God - Deuteronomy 28:1-14

Dear Friends, as Moses prepared the children of Israel to enter the Promised Land, he set before them a very clear choice: obedience would bring blessing, while disobedience would bring cursing. In the opening verses of Deuteronomy 28 we have one of the most beautiful and comprehensive pictures of God’s blessing in the entire Old Testament.

“And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God.” (Deuteronomy 28:1-2 ESV)

The blessings are wonderfully practical and all-encompassing:

• Blessed in the city and in the field
• Blessed in the fruit of the womb, the fruit of the ground,
and the fruit of the livestock
• Blessed in basket and kneading bowl
• Blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out
• Enemies defeated before them
• All the peoples of the earth shall see that they
are called by the name of the Lord

These blessings were not earned by perfect performance but were the promised fruit of a heart that loved and obeyed God. They showed the world that Israel belonged to the Lord.

For us as Christians under the New Covenant, these verses are not a legal contract but a wonderful picture of the kind of life God desires to bless. While we are not under the Old Testament law, the principle remains: there is a profound connection between walking closely with God in obedience and enjoying the fullness of His blessing.


Pause & Pray: Read Deuteronomy 28:1-14 slowly and thoughtfully. Then pray:

“Lord, thank You for Your desire to bless Your people. I confess that too often I have been careless in my obedience. Create in me a heart that truly wants to please You. Help me to walk carefully before You, not out of fear or duty, but out of love. Thank You that in Christ I am already blessed with every spiritual blessing. May my life bring glory to Your name as I seek to obey You in all things.”

Ask the Lord to show you any area where greater obedience would release greater blessing in your life.

Verse to Remember: “And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God… the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.” (Deuteronomy 28:1 ESV)

Question to Consider: In what area of your life right now is God calling you to greater obedience? What blessings might you be missing because of hesitation or compromise in that area?

The Baptism Testimony of Alfie

Alfie Cox Alfie has had a strong faith from an early age, eventually getting baptised at South Featherstone Gospel Hall at the tender age of eight on 6th April 2025. And what a day it was with all the worship music being chosen by Alfie himself, a full immersion baptism (it's a good job he can swim - lol), and Alfie's personal Testimony about his faith in Jesus Christ, which he gave to a packed Chapel. What a brave young man. The Joy of Live Music in Worship There’s something truly powerful about live music in worship. It’s more than notes, chords, and melodies—it’s a way of drawing hearts together, lifting voices in unity, and directing all our praise to the Lord. This week at our Family Service , we were blessed once again to see the Worship Team expanding for the second week in a row . Donna, our faithful pianist, was joined by Danny and Cameron on guitar , and Emily on vocals . What a joy it was to hear them blend together in worship, each offering their gifts to the Lord and to His people. Moments like these remind us that worship isn’t just performance—it’s participation. Every instrument, every voice, every strum and chord helps lead us deeper into the presence of God. A Lost Sheep, A Loving Shepherd 🐑✝️ This past Sunday at our Family Service, we were given a real treat. Brian Preston shared his testimony (which you can watch on our YouTube channel ), and alongside it, he used a set of hand-drawn illustrations that carried both spiritual weight and a touch of nostalgia. These weren’t just any drawings—they were lovingly created by Sandra, Brian’s wife, more than 40 years ago when she was working with children. The artwork is big and bold, all drawn on A3 sheets of paper, and they brought Jesus’ parable of the lost sheep (Luke 15:3–7) vividly to life. The story, of course, is simple yet profound: a shepherd leaves his 99 sheep to go after the one that’s wandered off. It’s a picture of God’s relentless love for each of us—that none are too lost, too far gone, or too insignificant to be pursued by Him.
