What I Have I Give You

More Than Silver and Gold – Acts 3:1-10
Dear Friends, it’s a normal afternoon in Jerusalem. Peter and John are heading to the temple for the hour of prayer, just as they had done many times before. As they approach the Beautiful Gate, they see a man who had been lame from birth. Every day his friends carried him there so he could beg from those going into the temple courts.
When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us!” The man gave them his full attention, expecting to receive something from them. Then Peter said those powerful words:
“Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
Taking him by the right hand, Peter helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.
Everyone who saw him walking and praising God recognised him as the same man who used to sit begging at the Beautiful Gate — and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
What a beautiful miracle! The man asked for money — something temporary. Peter and John gave him something far greater: healing and new life in the name of Jesus. What he received was so much more than silver or gold.
Today, pause in the quiet. How often do we come to God (or to others) asking for something small — a little help, a quick fix, a bit of comfort — when God wants to give us so much more? The lame man expected a coin. Instead, he received strength in his legs, the ability to walk, and the joy of praising God in the temple.
Peter and John had no money, but they had something infinitely better — the power and authority of the risen Jesus Christ. And they gave it away freely.
The same Jesus is still at work today. He still meets us at our point of need and offers us far more than we ask for. He offers healing, restoration, and the joy of walking with Him in newness of life.
Point to Ponder: Sometimes the greatest gifts from God come when we are looking for something far smaller. What we really need is not silver or gold, but the transforming power of Jesus Christ.
Verse to Remember: “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” (Acts 3:6 NIV)
Question to Consider: This week, think about an area of your life where you’ve been asking God for “silver or gold” — a quick solution or temporary relief. What would it look like to open your hands and heart to receive something far greater — the healing, strength, or new life that only Jesus can give? Are you willing to let Him take you by the hand and help you walk?
