Waiting In Hope

The Steadfast Love of the Lord – Psalm 33:4-5, 18-22
Dear Friends, in a world that often feels unstable and uncertain, Psalm 33 lifts our eyes to the One who never changes. The psalmist begins with a declaration of God’s perfect character:
“For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.” (vv.4-5)
God’s word is not only powerful – it is trustworthy. His character is upright. And His unfailing love fills the whole earth. It is not scarce or selective; it is abundant and constant.
Then the psalm turns to those who live in the light of that love:
“But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.” (vv.18-19)
The Lord watches over His people with care and protection. Not because they are strong or deserving, but because they fear Him and put their hope in His steadfast love. In times of danger or lack, He delivers and sustains.
The psalm closes with a beautiful declaration of trust and joy:
“We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.” (vv.20-22)
What a wonderful progression: from recognising God’s faithful character, to resting in His watchful care, to rejoicing in His protection, and finally praying that His unfailing love would rest upon us as we continue to hope in Him.
Today, pause in the quiet. Where do you need to be reminded that the Lord’s love is unfailing? In a season of waiting, uncertainty, or difficulty, the psalmist invites us to lift our eyes from our circumstances to the God whose word is right, whose character is faithful, and whose love fills the earth.
He sees you. He watches over you. And He delights to be your help and shield.
Point to Ponder: God’s unfailing love is not earned by our strength; it is received by those who fear Him and place their hope in Him alone.
Verse to Remember: “The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love.” (Psalm 33:18 NIV)
Question to Consider: This week, in one honest moment with God, name the area where you are waiting or struggling. Then deliberately declare your hope in His unfailing love. How does remembering that His eyes are upon you change the way you face today?
