The Daily Word

We conclude our brief visit to 1 Corinthians 13 by a type of summary of all that has gone before in terms of the aspects/characteristics of love, “Love never fails”.

Love in its purest definition cannot fail because it is the strongest emotion in the world. If there appears to be a failure of one person’s love to another, it is not love that has failed but the person who has failed to live up to the standard that true love demands. True love takes into account all circumstances and yet overrides the negatives. As human beings we are prone to failure in every aspect of our lives and even as Christians, we are still human and therefore prone to failure. It is only God’s strength that keeps us going, that makes a difference and if we fail to use that, because we don’t ask or refuse follow Him, then failure is inevitable.

To find the absolute answer and evidence that love never fails, we have to look at God’s Love. And particularly at the love displayed by God’s Son when He faced the cross with all the emotional, spiritual and physical torment that it was going to bring. And then on the cross, in those 3 hours of darkness, which we remembered yesterday, His love for us never failed. That glorious and triumphant word “Finished” meant that love had succeeded against all that could be done to make it fail and our salvation and future experience of God’s love in our lives was secure.

May we sing that chorus, ‘The love of Jesus is so wonderful’ with the knowledge that His love to us will continue eternally and will never fail!
