The Daily Word

There is a saying that the course of true love is never smooth. There is also a saying that a faint heart never won a fair lady. What both of these sayings are implying is that perseverance is necessary to achieve an objective, whether in love or in any other field. Nothing worthwhile is achieved without effort.
1 Corinthians 13 finishes off the specific aspects or characteristics of love with, “Love always perseveres”. If there is real love between 2 people, then they will overcome any setbacks in life. That is perseverance. Continuing to make the effort.
If we really look at love, it always has its source in God, whether through creation, God giving us the capacity to love, or in the spiritual world, God’s love magnified and brought home to us by the Holy Spirit living in our hearts. He gives us the capacity to love God in return and also to love our friends and relatives, particularly those who don’t know Jesus Christ as their Saviour and we are urged, in the course of that love, to continue to pray for them and the word persevere implies hardship and even disappointment but continuing to work in love. ‘Let us run with patience the race that is set before us’.
