The Daily Word

I think it is true to say, we all like to get our own way. Some people want that so much, they are not prepared to listen to another viewpoint and that is when conflict occurs. I don’t have to tell you that most of the current world conflicts are caused by someone or a group of people wanting things their way. Sometimes, this can be described as a battle of wills in which thousands of innocent people suffer or even lose their lives. In a civilian not military situation, that would be called murder. However that is not the point I feel I want to make.

Many Sunday mornings when we remember the sacrifice of our Saviour for sin, we might be led to the Garden of Gethsemane, where a battle of will took place but thankfully, Jesus was prepared to yield His will to that of His Father. We often quote the words where Jesus won the greater battle by giving way. “Nevertheless, not My will but Yours be done!” His humanity gave way to His divinity and the whole purpose of Him coming to earth was fully revealed there and when He went to the cross.

Our own Christian lives and experience would be greatly enhanced if we too prayed that prayer more frequently. So let us keep that prayer in our hearts this morning as we once again remember the Lord Jesus Christ around His table.
