There is a proverb that goes something like this about patience: “Patience is a virtue; find it if you can; seldom in a woman; never in a man”. Certainly it is true about me, I don’t have a lot of patience. Rather than wait in a traffic queue, I will drive extra miles in diversion to try to get round it. Waiting for something to happen is not something that comes easily to me.
When it comes to talking to God and asking Him to intervene in a situation, we want it to happen immediately and what we never realise even after years of our relationship with God is that we don’t see things as He sees them and His appreciation of time is totally different to ours, He is eternal and He works to His will not ours.
The Psalmist said in Psalm 27, “Wait on the Lord ………”. This is such good advice and something we need to take to heart. We know that praying for someone to be saved is entirely in accordance with God’s will because He does not desire the death of any soul, because He allowed His Son to die for the sin of the whole world and therefore let us have patience and keep on praying for His salvation to be accomplished in that person, and in that way, we too will wait on the Lord.
