The Daily Word

We are currently witnessing an escalated conflict in the Middle East. Whilst there are stated limited objectives to be achieved by this conflict, war is never so precise and the reactions of attacked countries do not conform to any rules or stated objectives. We are once again entering a more dangerous time and hovering in the wings are other powerful countries ready to take advantage of a situation.
We are glad at this time more than ever to have our faith and trust in our God. We know we may not be protected from physical harm but our God looks after His own. Just as harmful to our person is the stress and worry that this escalation may cause and I was reminded of a verse in Deuteronomy which we need put into effect in our lives. “The eternal God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms”. What a comforting image these two phrases bring to our hearts. The word ‘eternal’ is the one word that brings this verse into a different and higher character. We have all experience the comfort of a mother’s hug or the hug from a spouse but for all the love that they express, they like all of us are temporary. But God will never withdraw His arms from us.
So when we hear the bad and worsening news, to adopt another phrase from the New Testament spoken by Jesus Himself, “Let not your hearts be troubled ….”.
