One of the greatest mysteries that I see around me is the existence of love. It’s not that I don’t believe in love, but why does it happen and particularly between two individuals. How do brain patterns recognise love when we can’t even define it except by the evidence of its existence. We can look at two people and say ‘they are in love’ but it is only by their looks and behaviour that we can see love exists.
And that perhaps is the best definition, not in words but in actions. It is the strongest emotion that exists. It causes one person to even give their life up for another because all they want for that person is the best that life can bring and their well-being.
And the Bible itself and that great Apostle who knew and experienced the love of Jesus while Jesus was on earth, the Apostle John, defines love in this way and particularly the love of God for us as human beings: ” Herein is love. Not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be propitiation for our sins”. There is the ultimate in love. We who were not even friends or associated with God in any way,, for us who were His enemies, Jesus died for us to deal with our sin. That is ideal and divine love which we all as followers of Jesus seek to emulate in our lives. A Christian should never experience hate of another human being. Even dislike of someone can turn to hate, if left undealt with. If God could love us in our filthy rebellious state, we have no argument to put up against that.
So beware of dislike of others and concentrate on showing love to others because we are fulfilling God’s plan for us.
