The King's Eternal Reign

Hope from Psalm 2:7-12

We live in a turbulent world—one that often feels like it could get even worse, with nations raging, leaders plotting, and uncertainty swirling around us. But here's our anchor of hope: God's Word stands forever. He is sovereign, fully in control, and He will ultimately resolve every problem, bringing perfect justice and peace under His righteous rule.

The second half of Psalm 2 shifts from the nations' futile rebellion to God's triumphant response. He declares from heaven, installing His King on Zion—His holy mountain. In verse 7, the Son proclaims the decree: "You are my Son; today I have become your Father." This is the eternal relationship between God the Father and God the Son, fulfilled perfectly in Jesus Christ.

God promises the Son the nations as His inheritance, the ends of the earth as His possession. Though the rulers plot in vain, the King's authority is absolute—He will rule with justice, breaking rebellion like pottery if needed. Yet His heart is not only judgment; it's invitation. The psalm ends with wise counsel: "Kiss the Son... Blessed are all who take refuge in him."

In a world shaking with conflict and pride, Psalm 2 reminds us Jesus is the anointed King. At His baptism, the Father echoed this decree; on the cross, He won the nations; at His resurrection, He was declared Son with power. One day, every knee will bow.

Our response? Serve the Lord with reverence, rejoice with trembling, and submit to the Son. Refuge isn't in politics, power, or plans—it's in Jesus alone, who offers blessing to all who trust Him as Lord and Saviour.

Point to Ponder: True security and joy come from submitting to God's anointed King—Jesus Christ.

Verse to Remember: "Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction... Blessed are all who take refuge in him." — Psalm 2:12

Question to Consider: Where in your life today do you need to "kiss the Son"—submitting fully to Jesus as your King and finding refuge in Him?
