The Daily Word

It seems appropriate perhaps that on what is regarded as the 12th day of Christmas we would consider the last title that God, through Isaiah, tells us that the promised Messiah should bear and bring for His people, “the Prince of Peace”.
In one way, all of the ‘attributes’ that Isaiah has given to the Messiah have been perhaps symptomatic of power or deity and maybe this one stands out in contrast. Peace does not normally equate with power or deity. But, looked at from the established fact that the Messiah would be God in human form, only God can bring real peace into individual lives and also world order. Any peace that man makes can easily be broken and as we are currently seeing in American politics, the breaking of international laws and accepted behaviour means nothing, if you have the power to get away with it. That type of ‘peace’ can only be obtained by military might and maintained by the same and that is NOT what the Bible teaches.
It is interesting that Isaiah uses the word ‘Prince’ and not ‘king’ . A prince is the son of a king and that describes Jesus, in a way, as the Son of God.
When Jesus was on earth, He said, “My peace I leave with you, not as the world gives” and that is exactly what we have found by trusting Jesus as our Saviour, ‘He has made peace by the blood of His cross’, that is peace WITH God, but we have been blessed with the peace OF God in our hearts. How beautifully did Jesus fulfil those prophecies made about Him!
