God's Perfect Redemption: The Beautiful Ending in Ruth Chapter 4
Friends, Ruth chapter 4 is the glorious climax of this little book—a story that started in famine, loss, and bitterness but ends in joy, provision, and legacy. After Ruth's bold faith at the threshing floor, Boaz heads straight to the town gate to settle the matter of redemption publicly and legally.
A closer relative has first right to redeem Naomi's land and marry Ruth, but when he hears it means raising up an heir for the deceased, he declines—fearing it might jeopardise his own inheritance. Boaz, with integrity and joy, steps forward. He redeems the land, takes Ruth as his wife, and promises to continue the family line. The elders bless them, praying their home will be like Rachel and Leah's, builders of Israel.
God blesses their union with a son, Obed—who becomes grandfather to King David and, ultimately, an ancestor of Jesus Christ Himself. What began with Naomi empty and bitter ends with her holding a grandson on her lap, praised by the women: "The Lord has not stopped showing his kindness... for your daughter-in-law... loves you and is better to you than seven sons."
Ruth, the Moabite outsider, becomes part of the royal line of the Messiah—all because of faithful obedience, kind providence, and bold redemption.
We all need a redeemer. Like Ruth and Naomi, we're outsiders by sin, empty without Christ. But Jesus—our greater Boaz—paid the full price on the cross, not with silver but with His blood, to redeem us fully and bring us into God's family forever.
Point to Ponder: God specialises in turning bitter endings into beautiful beginnings through His perfect redemption.
Verse to Remember: "So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife... And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David." — Ruth 4:13, 17
Question to Consider: How has Jesus, your ultimate Redeemer, turned a "bitter" chapter in your life into something beautiful?
