The Daily Word

When you think about it, most of our actions, if not our lives, are built on trust. We never check to see if a chair will collapse under us before we sit down; we eat food that has been prepared by someone we have never met. We even rely on services and people we don’t know or have even checked out. If we had to check everything before we trusted it, our lives would cease to have any peace and nothing would get done. We would have to revert to total self-sufficiency in every aspect of living.

Sometimes, our trust is misplaced, and we get let down or crises occur which we could not anticipate or did not expect. We may learn a lesson, but we still have to go on trusting because we cannot sensibly live without trust.

The one Person in whom our trust will never be misplaced is our God and Father and in Psalm 83, we have the words of the Psalmist which we can all echo, “In Thee, O LORD, do I put my trust”. Our God is faithful and trustworthy beyond any human estimation. Paul could say ‘I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He will keep that which I have committed to Him’. Our main problem is that we do not trust God enough. We are afraid that something will go wrong and because of that, we try to do so much in our own strength.

There was a phrase that was popular some years ago which we seem to have forgotten, “Let go and let God” which really sums up what I want us to think about daily.
