The Eternal Word Who Became One of Us:

The Wonder of John 1

Friends, as we stand on the threshold of a new year, there's no better place to anchor our hearts than the opening of John's Gospel. He doesn't rush into the Christmas story like the other writers—instead, he pulls back the curtain on eternity itself to show us who Jesus truly is.

From before time began, Jesus—the divine Word—existed in perfect, intimate relationship with God the Father. He wasn't created; He is God, the One through whom the entire universe was spoken into being. Every star, every planet, every breath of life originates in Him. In His essence is life itself, a radiant light that no darkness can ever extinguish.

Yet the world He made didn't recognise Him when He came. His own people largely turned away. But to everyone who does welcome Him—who believes and receives Him personally—He gives the incredible gift of becoming a true child of God, born spiritually from above.

The climax of this prologue is breathtaking: this eternal, all-powerful Word stepped into our broken world and took on human flesh. He pitched His tent among us, living as one of us while revealing the full glory of the Father. What makes Jesus utterly unique is that He brings together perfect truth that exposes our need and boundless grace that meets it. From His fullness, we receive one blessing after another.

No human has ever seen God in His full essence, but Jesus—the only Son who shares the Father's very nature—has made Him known. He is the complete revelation of God, the bridge between heaven and earth.

This is the heart of the Gospel: the eternal Creator became a man to rescue us, offering light, life, grace, and adoption to all who trust Him as Lord and Saviour.

Point to Ponder: Jesus is the eternal God who humbly entered our world to reveal the Father and offer us new life through grace.

Verse to Remember: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, full of grace and truth.

Question to Consider: Have you opened your heart to receive this eternal Word—trusting Jesus alone as your Saviour and Lord—so His light and life can fill you?
