The Daily Word

The Eternal Life We Can Know: Insights from 1 John 1 - Friends, imagine you're an eyewitness to the most extraordinary event in history—like being courtside when a tennis legend scores the winning shot that changes the game forever. That's how the apostle John opens his letter in 1 John 1: "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life." John isn't sharing something small; he's declaring the reality of Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God who stepped into our world.

This isn't just history—it's an invitation to real fellowship. John proclaims it "so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ." When we trust Jesus, we enter a joyful relationship with God and others, making our joy complete.

But here's the key: God is light, with no darkness at all. If we walk in that light—living honestly and obediently—the blood of Jesus cleanses us from sin, fostering true community. Yet, if we deny our sin, we deceive ourselves. The promise? Confess, and God faithfully forgives and purifies us completely.

Point to Ponder: Eternal life isn't distant—it's knowing Jesus personally right now.

Verse to Remember: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)

Question to Consider: What's one step you can take today to walk more fully in God's light?
