The Daily Word

As this is the Advent season, I wanted to think about some of the events in scripture that lead up to and foretold the coming of the Saviour of the World. I know some of the prophecies in the Bible, but I am told that there are many hundreds. I just want to look at some of the more well-known ones and why they were recorded.

We go right back to the beginning of the Bible for our first recorded prophecy, to the Garden of Eden. It was a perfect paradise until Satan entered the scene. What went on there has coloured and spoiled our perfect relationship with God ever since. The taking and tasting of the ‘forbidden’ fruit was the culmination of a subtle temptation, that goes to the heart of all mankind’s problems: “Has God Said…”. Casting doubt on God’s perfect order and requirements. God indeed HAD said and Adam and Eve were led away from God and could never return to that perfect relationship and paradise and so “sin has passed onto all men and women” since that time.

But the Saviour was promised right from that first step away from God, “He shall crush the serpent’s head”, referring to the ultimate defeat of Satan and the breaking of his power. But immediately there was the foretelling of the price that would need to be paid for that to happen, “…. And he (Satan) will bruise His heel” ,

To restore us to any form of relationship with God, sin had to be dealt with, and a price had to be paid, and we see at Calvary just what that price for the forgiveness of sin was. But praise God, like all God’s plans – it worked.
