At the Breaking of Bread - Sunday Sermon

Understanding the Times – A Word from Phil Gibson

Before Breaking Bread – South Featherstone Gospel Hall, Phil started with a Good morning, everyone – where has the year gone? It feels like only yesterday we were together, and now here we are, racing toward another Christmas.

Phil Gibson took us to 1 Chronicles 12:32 – the men of Issachar, the smallest group among thousands of mighty warriors, yet the verse singles them out because “they understood the times and knew what Israel should do.”

Phil pointed out that all the other tribes brought shields, spears, bows – impressive gifts for battle. But the men of Issachar brought something rarer: discernment. They saw what God was doing in their generation and knew exactly how to respond. While everyone else was ready to fight, they were ready to follow God’s timing.

That verse gripped Phil this week, and it gripped us too. In a world asking “What’s the answer?” – politicians unsure, leaders confused, even institutions that once pointed to truth now wobbling – God is still raising up men and women who understand the times and know what His people should do.

As we moved to the Lord’s Table, Phil reminded us of Galatians 4:4 – “When the time had fully come, God sent his Son.” God is never early, never late. He knows the hour. And right now, in this hour, He has placed us here for a reason.

So let’s be like Issachar today: eyes open, hearts tuned to God’s timing, ready to act on what He shows us – in our church, our families, our witness.

One more Sunday closer to His return. Let’s make it count.

Phil then went on to deliver his second Gospel Message of the day in our Family Service, where he discussed the true gift of Christmas (Jesus) in the nativity story as recorded in Matthew's Gospel... at 30 minutes long its a real treasure trove of wisdom... watch and enjoy.
