The Daily Word

Yesterday, we discussed faith and sight and the leading of the Holy Spirit being more important that the visible achievement of results. In that respect, faith is not theoretical but a practical outworking of our salvation. This is particularly important when we consider the spiritual side of our Christian life and is a fundamental principle.

The main driving force that has secured our salvation is God’s love and its application so clearly expressed in John 3 16. Jesus Himself declared that His disciples should be recognised by the expression of that love to others. If we have been blessed by God’s love, should that not be passed on to others? Graham Kendrick’s song, ‘From heaven you came’ includes the verse which begins, ‘so let us learn how to serve, for it is Christ we’re serving. In that respect, the very practical book of James has the theme that “Faith, without works, is dead” . Not a man to mince his words! In that way we are expressing God’s love to others.

We see, but probably don’t take up, many opportunities to express our faith in doing something for someone else’s good during a day. Finally John in his first letter sums it up, “Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in action and truth”.
