The Daily Word

This Prayerline has now been running for over 3 years, and there is no intention to cease ‘publishing’. As individuals, each of us have always known of people who have needed prayer, but the sharing of this knowledge was intermittent and incomplete and Prayerline was commenced to make known to the wider fellowship the needs of many, to bring some more consistency and direction to our prayer lives. And in the Bible Study on Tuesday night we discussed the possibility that a lack of prayer delays or even hinders the working of our God. Right from the early days of His ministry, Jesus exhorted His Disciples to pray and in Acts 2 v 42, the 4 activities which were critical in the growth of the early church were listed as ‘ the Apostles doctrine; Breaking of Bread; Fellowship and finally, Prayer.’

Paul, in all his letters without exception both asks for prayer for the work he was doing but also says frequently that he was also praying for each of the churches and as active contributors to our Prayerline, we love to know that each one who receives it values it as a help to support the Lord’s work and people.

In Romans 12 Paul exhorts us to “be faithful in prayer”. Faithfulness at its heart has discipline and a willingness to cooperate with God. No one knows how much prayer has counted in the blessings that this world has received but continuing to pray and sincerity in prayer (James possibly describes this as ‘fervent’) is a vital necessity for Christians as it is the silent power that supports God’s work. Someone has described prayer as ‘Helping to move the Hand that moves the world’. We have a Heavenly Father who loves to communicate with His children and loves to hear them also. Let us truly be faithful in prayer and then see God at work.
