The Daily Word

Today is what we sometimes call the “Lord’s Day”. It is the first day of another week and the reason we perhaps call it the Lord’s Day is that especially on this day we seek to meet together more and in a public way seek to serve God and dedicate more of our time to Him and His service.

Particularly, we obey 2 of the Lord’s commands and perhaps in doing so obey a third command he left with us. That third command is that ‘we love one another as He has loved us’. So in meeting together we express our love in fellowship and care for each other. The second command that we publicly seek to obey is that he told His Disciples to “preach the Gospel”.

But the first command is to “Remember Him” and we gladly do that in the ‘Breaking of Bread’ service. It is the only time in the week when we join together to worship, praise and thank God for our Lord Jesus Christ. We perhaps have to remember many things during a week, some of which will not bring us joy. But remembering Jesus, His birth, life, death and resurrection and what effect these events have had on our lives, should make our hearts swell up in gratitude and worship and to take the bread and wine is a great privilege and directs our hearts and minds to ‘God manifest in the flesh’. May our worship together glorify our wonderful Saviour.
