The Daily Word

Here we are, entering the last 2 months of the year. Where did the first 10 months go? We might ask. Time, unless we manage to travel at a speed beyond the speed of light, just marches on at a steady pace although our perception is that it goes more quickly as we get older which seems unfair as we have less time left humanly speaking. We might envy baby Faith, as at present, she has no consciousness of time and has only just started on life’s journey.

As we look back over the year, we might have regrets, but we are unable to change the actions we made or the words we spoke, so regret is never a positive emotion. Sadly also, we may not have grown as we should in our Christian faith, but all these events can be improved upon IF we are prepared to change and have learned from the mistakes we made or the time we have wasted.

The Bible uses the word ‘today’ much more than the word ‘tomorrow’ which is a further spur for us to use the time we have more effectively, and one use of the word ‘today’ has come to me, “Today, if you will hear My voice (says God), harden not your hearts”. There are so many thoughts we could draw from this verse but it is pretty much self-explanatory. A hard heart indicates lack of obedience and God will speak to us in many ways, but rarely actually audibly, so the prime source is God’s Word. So never let us seek to deviate from a path God has shown us in His Word as we read it daily. David said, “Your Word have I his in my heart, that I might not sin against You”. Prayerful study of God’s Word is essential it we are to ‘redeem the time’ we have left to us.
