The Daily Word

I am a couch tennis fan, to watch someone like Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, Novak Djocovic or now Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner play is awesome, they have such talent. But they didn’t get to where they are or were without coaching and years of practice. They developed and improved the intrinsic talent God has given them.
Sadly, some talented sporting individuals, and I can think of at least 2 in professional football, who through their lifestyle cut short their playing careers and in some cases their lives by choosing to engage in activities that had the very opposite of developing that intrinsic talent, those activities effectively crushed it too soon.
When we come to know the Lord Jesus as our Saviour then the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. He has the mind of our Saviour, so that gift is already in us. But, like a sporting talent, that needs to be encouraged to grow and become a real objective in our Christian lives.
Why do we meet together to worship God? Why do we engage in prayer? Why do we study God’s Word? When we think about these activities, we can easily see that these are in accordance with the mind of our Saviour. Individually and collectively these spiritual activities help us to grow and to know more of the mind of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We all need to sort priorities out in our lives, that helps us to find direction and know where to put our efforts. But I would urge myself and each one of us to put experiencing and growing the mind of our Saviour high on that priority list.
