The Daily Word
Jesus promised that where 2 or 3 of His followers were to gather in His name, He would be there in the midst of them. “In His name” is an interesting phrase. Effectively it means to fulfil His will or to act as His representatives. We could meet perhaps for a social occasion and whilst we have the Holy Spirit living within us, we are not really meeting ‘in His name’ But as we come around the Lords Table on a Sunday morning, we are most definitely meeting in His name.
The words of that hymn we sometimes sing come to mind, “Why come they thus? Why tarry for a space? But for thy presence, O thou King of Grace!” So whenever we gather to serve the Lord, we meet Him, the King of kings and Lord of lords but especially around His Table because we are fulfilling His command to be there. So it behoves us to be there and to be in a condition to meet our almighty God whom we have been called to serve. So let us sing and bow and wonder, let us praise the Saviour’s Name as we gather this morning.
