In Romans Chapter 7, the great Apostle Paul, who was massively instrumental in spreading the Gospel throughout the whole of the eastern Mediterranean region as far as Greece, and founded so many churches in the region, in Romans 7 he despairs of his human nature, which constantly prevented him, or sought to prevent him, from his commitment to God. It is full of the words, ‘I, me, mine’. Whenever I read Romans 7, I am amazed at the strength of feeling Paul puts into the passage and he reveals that, despite the presence and power of God, he is helpless to beat the urges that beset him. 2000 years later we too experience that same lack of power and can echo Paul’s feelings. All looks lost until we get to verse 25 where the secret of success is revealed, “I thank God through our Lord Jesus Christ!”
We sing about surrendering all to God, yet we still hold back and we wonder why we do not experience victory over sin’s power. But we have failed to realise that the victory has already been achieved by our Saviour and all we need to do is to give way to Him and instead of failure, we share His victory. All our lives, in every aspect and detail, should be given to Him. Let us not hold back but give Him the glory and share in His victory.
