Vast amounts of money are being spent to understand what scientists call, “the fundamental nature of matter”. It is of largely theoretical interest because these particles only exist for fractions of a microsecond but somehow they get identified and even have names attached to them, as though that gives them some greater importance.

At the other end of the scale of magnitude, scientists use telescopes, which in turn use techniques most of mankind would never understand to probe the extremities of the universe. Again this might be of theoretical and even aesthetic interest, but has little practical value, to try to understand the origin of the universe.

The Bible has an unscientific but practical view of the outcome of all this research which is found in Genesis Chapter 1, “In the beginning, God created ….”. The reason I use the word ‘practical’ is that accepting simply what God has to say and what God has done brings infinite benefit anybody who is prepared to accept God’s dealings with man.

Much of the research that is taking place in these areas we have thought about above seems almost to be undertaken to prove that God does not exist and this vast universe is just a mechanical arrangement which came into being just by the laws of physics. To put God at the core of creation brings it all into focus and men can marvel at the complexity of its being and operation and give glory to Him who is the creator and sustainer of all things and yet loves us enough to send His Son Jesus to die and pay the penalty for our sins which exist clearly.
